Nearly half of bosses 'enforce importance' of team building
Date: 30/11/2009
Nearly half of all managers see team building corporate events as central to how they operate as a business, according to a recent poll.
In the survey for intotheblue.co.uk, 1,168 businesses across the UK responded, with 48 per cent of managing directors stating that they send their employees to team building conferences and days out such as paintballing, clay pigeon shooting and gorge walking.
Businesses explained that they carried out such actions to reward staff for hard work, while also maintaining strong morale in the current economic climate.
Chris Brown, the managing director of sunshine.co.uk, explained that paintballing turned out to be a huge success for his team, adding that the team building corporate event turned into one big adventure for the company.
He continued: "It was a bit of a risk as I wasn't sure if the older members of the team would enjoy it, but they loved taking charge and giving the younger members a good run for their money."
Earlier this month, the Work Foundation concluded that the government needs to set down rules regarding basic motivation and morale in order to ensure that businesses can get the most out of incentives and recognition as well as team building corporate events.
