National Grid offers staff incentives and recognition with shopping cards

Date: 03/02/2011

National Grid is offering its staff incentives and recognition by providing reloadable shopping cards for use at Sainsbury's and Asda.

The cards are part of a scheme which has been running since December 2009, in an effort to improve employee motivation in the energy supplier's workforce.

Nearly one-third of National Grid's 10,000 staff have signed up to the benefits and make use of incentives including telephone, online, and cash-back discounts at national and local retailers, as well as retail store vouchers.

According to Employee Benefits, Caroline Adams, employee benefits manager at National Grid, said: "The new website will not only aid us in offering our staff a vast array of discounts but will help us boost employee engagement.

"It is a very effective way of rewarding and helping our diverse workforce make the most of their income."

Last week, Armand Guillemot, sales director at Great Hotels of the World, suggested that bosses who want to offer employees incentives and recognition for hard work could consider travel perks.
