The second phase of the National Exhibition Centre's (NEC's) £29 million redevelopment is underway, with the LG Arena in for major work over the coming weeks.
It is hoped by those involved in the expansion project that corporate hospitality events will be further catered for through the addition of bars especially for that purpose, as well as several restaurants and a party deck.
Developers announced that work at the LG Arena will be complete in time for October, which will also see 2,000 seats added to the main room to bring the total capacity to 14,000.
Money has been donated in the form of a £25 million loan from Birmingham City Council as well as a £4 million contribution from Advantage West Midlands, the area's regional development agency.
Commenting on the project, managing director of arenas for the NEC Group Phil Mead said: "The new arena bowl will be in the shape of a horse shoe with brand new seating in a design focus that will create the ultimate entertainment experience for everyone."
The NEC has over four million visitors each year and opened in 1976, hosting thousands of corporate events since then.
