Motivation levels 'must be maintained above everything else'
Date: 29/04/2010
Whatever company protocols are implemented in the workplace, an office without staff motivation tools such as incentives and recognition will suffer, according to an expert.
Speaking to Fresh Business Thinking, Melissa Carslake, the managing director (south) of right4staff, argued that whether a company is struggling during a credit crunch or not, staff motivation is influenced by a number of factors.
These include having the right person for the job who is capable of carrying out tasks, giving them the right tools and support to do it, as well as setting realistic targets they can believe in achieving.
Underlining the importance of incentives and recognition, Ms Carslake added: "Concentrate on motivating your best people and don't be tempted to carry anyone who is not up to the job - this can be highly demotivating for the rest of the team."
Recently, the Thomsons Online Benefits' Asia Employee Rewards Watch 2010 found that the human resources challenge for many businesses in the modern market is employee retention and may be best addressed with team building corporate events.
