Motivation 'stems from fair treatment'

Date: 26/01/2009

Employee motivation comes from fair treatment of all workers, the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development advises.

Those who are well-informed, fairly-treated employees are more likely to be motivated, says reward adviser Charles Cotton.

Such workers will go on to be powerful advocates and contribute to the success of a firm, he continues.

Mr Cotton also calls on firms to be transparent over wages, saying this is "vital for staff motivation and solid employee engagement".

Earlier this week, business expert Barry Shore advised firms to adapt any incentives and recognition programmes they offer staff to the current economic climate.

He suggested team building activities or corporate events to help keep employees motivated and stated that recognition programmes can help bosses demonstrate to their staff how much they appreciate their work.

Mr Shore also highlighted the importance of understanding current levels of motivation before working to improve them.ADNFCR-2060-ID-18991666-ADNFCR
