Motivation 'requires team building conferences'

Date: 02/09/2009

Without a structured plan of communication, galvanised through such things as team building conferences, a business will struggle to get the most out of their team, it is believed.

Mary Pearson, a "workplace shaman" writing for the Financial Post, explained that good employee morale is essentially a way of maintaining a competitive advantage and it is an asset which is highly contagious.

As a result, an organisation with motivational issues must engage a "skilled facilitator", such as corporate events management, otherwise their efforts against the effects of the recession may be in vain, she continued.

Ms Pearson added: "Create opportunities to have fun as a team. This is an important but often underused strategy for increasing morale.

"Friendships at work, and being liked and accepted, are also important. Creating opportunities to socialise, share jokes, and enjoy each other's companionship is a great way to achieve this."

Recently, Carla Rieger, a commentator for 4Hoteliers, explained that team building is much more effective if businesses make the experience as fun as possible, creating an energetic and healthy environment.
