Truly motivated people are required in order to help firms survive the recession, one expert states.
In order to keep employees motivated and help turn a company around, managers need to connect with them emotionally, says Jon Katzenbach, chief executive officer of consulting firm Katzenbach Partners.
Bosses must concentrate on the positive aspects of motivation, he tells Business Week.
They should be looking at initiatives such as incentive programmes and find a way for employees to feel good about the work they do each day, Mr Katzenbach advises.
He calls those who can do this "master motivators" and explains that such people find the things that matter to employees and use them as motivation tools.
Last month, Mr Katzenbach stated that managers must motivate their employees and ensure effective team building activities in order to help their firms survive the recession.
He told the New York Times that pride in a person's work is a driving factor in employee motivation.
