More control over jobs is 'key' to improving motivation
Date: 05/03/2010
People who plan to improve their workers' motivation and are considering incentives and recognition should perhaps install some more protocols to make it even easier to boost morale.
Paul Glover, a motivation specialist, told Fast Company that using extrinsic motivation to attempt to generate high performance is a bit limited.
Instead, successful managers are using a motivation strategy that emphasises performance and satisfaction equally and should use certain elements of intrinsic motivation, he continued.
Mr Glover explained that by giving employees more control over their jobs, it can boost morale - this stressed how employees do not necessarily have control over what they need to do but instead how they need to do it.
"Giving employees the opportunity for growth in their job" is the next step, as this can help employees develop a skill set necessary to do their work while presenting employees with challenging work that keeps them interested with the task at hand.
In a recent report for the Calgary Herald, it was underlined how acts of goodwill and kindness in the office can really boost morale in the workplace.
