Morale must be sustained during times like this as it is very easy for employees to get agitated during the downturn, it has been explained.
Adriana Loeff of Forbes revealed that most people want to feel part of the organisation and to do this, bosses need to use effective communication to develop this team building mentality and inform people of the latest news and any problems.
Kerri T Perez, a member of the Employee Relations Special Expertise Panel at the Society for Human Resource Management, explained that managers also ought to use an incentive scheme or a similar morale-boosting initiative to keep people at a company, including themselves.
She explained: "Most of the time, when a company has a problem in a downturn, people are afraid that the person they report to or the leader in their area is going to leave them. It's just human nature."
Earlier this month, author Sathnam Sanghera told the Times that motivation was not only a performance booster but also a moral obligation of managers.
