Morale 'low in job market'

Recent research has suggested that while many people believe that a job under threat makes employees work harder, it is in fact making them more disengaged and results in lower morale.

The study, carried out by HR Solutions, found that little loyalty was being shown to jobs and people were expecting to lose their career in the long run due to the economic crisis, in turn resulting in "lacklustre commitment" and "low motivation", according to Talent Management.

Commenting on the findings, chief executive officer of HR Solutions Kevin Sheridan said that engaged employees have the least regard for job loss and the connection to the work they do should be fostered to prevent good people leaving a company or underperforming.

He asserted: "The irony of this research cannot be overstated; the employees who should be most concerned about job security are the disengaged employees, who actually have less fear in that regard."

Research by HR Solutions aims to translate findings into positive organisational change, according to the company.
