Money driven reward and recognition 'still important'
Date: 23/07/2010
Businesses may need to make room in their budgets for some monetary rewards to encourage employee motivation.
In an article for Bakersfield.com, Holly Culhane stressed the importance of encouraging a company to work together as a team and the role of employee motivation in business success.
Team building exercises can help staff to learn to trust each other and to improve communication.
But Ms Culhane noted that financial rewards should not be dismissed entirely.
"Even when times are tough, there is the occasional need for a monetary investment to help motivate our people and build effective teams," she wrote.
When team building activities are held, Ms Culhane said that they should not take too long and ought to be "appropriate".
She reminded bosses not to try anything too physically demanding if it is beyond the capacities of anyone in the team.
Former AXA worker Lisa Rondelli recently spoke to the Daily Mirror about the employee motivation at her new job.
After being made redundant, she moved to a smaller firm and found that it had a good understanding of how training and development helps staff to feel valued.
