Business managers need to inspire their staff with strong leadership and motivation skills, it has been claimed.
According to senior manager Edward Cross, managers can use a number of techniques to boost employee motivation - including non-financial reward and recognition programs.
Speaking during a recent podcast, Mr Cross claimed that reward and recognition is more important than ever before because of the impact the recent global economic downturn is still having on staff morale.
Mr Cross was reported by Voxy as saying: "One of the most effective means of motivating your staff is to recognise their achievements.
"Most managers don't give enough recognition to their staff, simply because they don't get it enough themselves. Giving recognition doesn't cost the business anything and something like a simple thank you can go a long way," Mr Cross added.
The Chartered Management Institute recently highlighted the benefits of non-financial reward and recognition programs for both staff and businesses.
