Managers must 'lead by example' for motivation

Date: 23/03/2009

Employee motivation schemes will fail unless the manager leads by example, it has been stated.

According to a piece for the Financial Gazette, a company needs to ensure that any changes implemented in order to improve the quality of morale in the office must be made on all levels.

It was noted: "It is no use telling an employee to come early to work when most of management is driving in after 9am. Management has to lead by example if change of any significant sort is to occur."

Furthermore, communication has been directly linked to performance by the company, noting that transparency in the workplace is key to identifying unacceptable behaviour but also helpful in improving the work rate of all people in an organisation.

Last year, Deloitte's Ethics and Workplace Survey found that transparency in the workplace highlighted the efficiency of employees and enhanced the engagement they may have with their surroundings, producing a culture of openness and honesty.ADNFCR-2060-ID-19087510-ADNFCR
