Managers 'must dust off employee surveys'

Date: 29/06/2009

Personnel managers who hope to start motivating employees ought to look over old questionnaires handed out to those they are looking after, according to an expert.

Performance specialist Nigel Watson, the managing director of Q4 Solutions, said that effective management of staff required there to be a direct response to criticisms and recommendations from those looking for a morale boost in the office.

Mr Watson explained that given the market went into freefall between November and March, there is now no better time to think about employees first and foremost when making major decisions regarding workers as they will need the encouragement.

He continued: "The information held within these surveys is absolute gold dust for personnel managers and will help develop an internal communications strategy about the present and future."

Mr Watson explained that this "will help eliminate the negative grapevine effect" while providing a "solid foundation for sustainable change in preparation for future upturns in business".

Alongside this, managers may want to debunk any myths of motivation, with David Javitch of Entrepreneur magazine stating that people are motivated for different reasons, with the more personal approach needed to solve any issues.
