Management 'must link performance with goals'

Date: 30/03/2009

If a company is to do well and become more flexible with its employees, it ought to change the structure of its reviews, it has been noted.

Mary Mosquera of Federal Computer Week said that through the utilisation of a simple computer program, managers should keep track of goals and not wait for the usual yearly regrouping to make decisions.

She stated that the traditional annual review meeting between a boss and their employee - a process which is seemingly "ingrained yet sometimes uncomfortable" - should be replaced with a newer approach wherein an "ongoing and regular dialogue" is established between the two.

This, she states, not only aids in team building and helps when motivating employees but also allows a company to get a clear line of sight on the worker's progress and, in effect, the strength of the business on the whole.

Phil Flaxton, the chief executive of Work Wise UK, recently said that through efficient use of money, managers would get a better hold on their employees, noting the role of constant communication such as that recommended by Ms Mosquera.ADNFCR-2060-ID-19098855-ADNFCR
