Maintain employee motivation by allowing staff to work from home, says expert

Date: 29/11/2010

An expert has issued advice to help bosses maintain employee motivation during the cold weather.

Carole White, business support manager at TEDCO, has advised businesses not to let the bad weather get in the way of productivity, as there are ways to tackle it.

The snow in the UK has caused long commutes as people try and make their way to work, with closed roads forcing people to stay at home and shut schools meaning that parents may be forced to miss work to look after their children.

But Ms White has told businesses that in these circumstances, allowing staff to work from home can "increase productivity, give greater staff motivation and make use of premises and time".

Writing for NE Business, she explained that technological advances with the internet and phones make it easier for businesses to continue working.

And working from home can also boost employee motivation by offering benefits to workers, including keeping workers when they have children, reducing sickness and stress levels, and saving on office space.
