In a bid to improve motivation, Luton Borough Council has expanded its wellbeing programme in order to help staff in the downturn.
Speaking to People Management Magazine, head of human resources at Luton Borough Council Chris Golding explained that the new service is aiming to boost morale in times of economic strife, noting that reorganisation has thrown up a number of issues to address.
Because of stress and other uncertain issues which may be causing problems for employees, it is hoped that the introduction of telephone and face-to-face counselling for any member of staff or their household will give such people more support.
Mr Golding continued: "The scheme is confidential so we don't look at individuals but if there's a pattern of stress or absences in a certain department and it's not to do with anything obvious, such as redundancies, we work to find out what's going on."
Another thing which may detect issues of morale is a personality questionnaire, according to the Guardian this month, which can also be used to assess motivation.
