A lack of motivation can have destructive effects in the workplace, one expert warns.
Low motivation can lead to stress, procrastination and hunts for a new job, explains Dr Hennie Kriek, president of SHL for the Americas.
"A motivated workforce is crucial to ensure employees are happy, engaged, productive and good advocates for the company, adds James Bywater, global consulting manager for the firm.
Ensuring people are motivated "doesn't always take a lot, but it is important", he states.
Different incentives and recognition programmes will work for different people, with some appreciating money and others preferring team building events, Mr Bywater continues.
Research from SHL reveals that men are more likely to be de-motivated by poor senior management, while women are more affected by poor relationships with colleagues.
