The north-west city of Liverpool has been named as one of the world's most desirable cities to host a conference or a corporate hospitality event.
According to the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), the venue was seen as the 86th-best area on the planet to take a corporate event to.
It marks a rise of 44 places on last year's placement at 130th, perhaps owing to it being the European Capital of Culture for 2008.
In 2006 the city placed in 245th, and the city council has every intention of breaking the top 50 by 2012.
Destinations such as New York, Venice, Bonn, Auckland and Moscow all finished behind Liverpool, with councillor Gary Miller commenting on why his associates feel they have been successful.
He explained: "The years of investment in the city's infrastructure and training in our hospitality sector are beginning to reap dividends and we are committed to supporting the industry to further improve the city's welcome to visitors and businesses alike."
Joint first for the top spot in the most recent rankings were Paris and Vienna, with each hosting 139 meetings in 2008.
