Date: 06/01/2010
The conference industry in Leeds has proved to be a particularly profitable one following a huge number of delegates for team building corporate events in the West Yorkshire city, it has emerged.
Regional development agency for the area Yorkshire Forward looked into 100 venues across the city to conclude that four million people visited the locale for their team building conference, as well as generating a whopping £562 million for the economy.
The city is home to many small venues as well as established places including the Royal Armouries, Elland Road Stadium - the home of Leeds United FC - and Headingleey Cricket Ground, which hosted the Ashes last year.
Conference Leeds head Nicola Lockwood said of the announcement: "2009 was a busy year, despite the recession. There has been huge growth in hotels and meeting venues in the city in the past five years."
Leeds recently caused a stir after the city's football team beat Manchester United at Old Trafford in the third round of the FA Cup.
