Leadership and motivation messages 'must be targeted'
Date: 14/07/2010
Leadership and motivation could be improved if companies were to shed the mass-marketing approach to internal communication, an expert has suggested.
Andy Philpott, Managing Director at Edenred, recently told HR Magazine that while techniques in marketing began to develop away from this model, many internal communication issues have not.
He said that relevance is the key issue that affects the communication of motivation issues and it is here that firms should focus on improving.
Mr Philpott said: "This is the communications challenge for organisations, particularly at a time when the need for employee motivation and engagement has never been greater, and the barriers in its way never stronger."
He called for organisations to spend more time considering whether there are better ways to communicate what they are doing for their employees.
Earlier this month, Tenille McLeod, director of sales at the Hutchinson Island Marriott, claimed that effectively-communicated employee motivation schemes can have a knock-on effect within companies, with staff realising that they can also help to motivate their co-workers.
