Leaders 'should be trained to improve motivation'
Date: 02/01/2009
Staff motivation - particularly for management - can be vastly improved through training or corporate events, according to a major industry expert.
The Chartered Institute of Personal Development (CIPD) revealed that management deficiencies could be attributed to a ten to 15 per cent drop in overall company productivity, highlighting the need for investment in improving the higher levels of a business.
Adviser of learning, training and development at the CIPD John McGurk said that due to the current economic climate, many people were feeling pushed into making a business case for management training in order to enhance company income and help in motivating employees.
He continued: "If government is serious about making a long-term impact on UK productivity and not just a knee-jerk response to the impending recession, then the people management skills of our workforce should be high on its agenda."
According to Workplace Issues, managers should keep staff motivated, as it could help develop a closer bond.
