Leaders 'must be optimistic' during push for motivation

Date: 27/04/2009

One of the only ways which an employer can effectively and believably pull off a push for morale is for them to be optimistic during a prospective scheme's implementation, according to an expert.

Stuart G Danforth, a specialist in morale-boosting techniques, told the MetroWest Daily News that such an attitude is becoming more popular with individuals around the world, with many of them seeing green shoots on the horizon for their business following a period of uncertainty.

He explained: "I often find that strong leadership requires optimism because it lends itself to the resilience needed to work through and succeed in hard times."

However, while this may be improving the welfare of their staff, such managers may also be bringing about a "self-fulfilling prophecy" by acting in such a way, with the improvement in business confidence being possibly reflected in the market as such individuals are working ahead of economic change.

Morale and motivation is needed in a healthy company, according to Lily Garcia of the Washington Post, who said that team building sessions can help create good communication and performance.ADNFCR-2060-ID-19141735-ADNFCR
