A scheme aimed at raising summertime employee motivation has again been implemented by a food giant, with executives encouraging other businesses to follow its lead.
Kellogg's, the leading provider of breakfast cereal in the UK, aims to boost both performance and morale by allowing their workers to leave the building at 12:00 BST on a Friday, providing they finish their 36.6-hour week before then.
Karen Meehan, the European human resources vice-president for the organisation, stated that the Summer Hours scheme has proved to be a great way to give reward and recognition to employees while also allowing them to have a healthier work-life balance.
She continued: "We recognise that many businesses suffer due to unauthorised summer sickness absence and due to our flexible working policy this is something that we don't have to worry about."
A recent report carried out as part of Employee Benefits Research 2009 found that while 43 per cent of employers are looking to continue motivation schemes, 29 per cent of respondents are actively cutting back on bonuses relating to performance, which could lead to poor morale.
