Job worries 'must be quelled' to improve staff morale

Date: 13/03/2009

Motivating employees soon after any redundancies have come to pass can be a difficult thing to do, an employment expert has stated.

Sue Wade, the director of staffing at BPP Professional Education, told SME Web that balancing the "day job" with the task of employee motivation could be a daunting one in the current climate, but it needed to be addressed.

The expert warned that "it is crucial that line managers recognise that employees could be feeling very vulnerable, anxious or de-motivated because they do not have the company of colleagues they might have worked with for many years, for example".

Without addressing this problem, she noted, productivity and performance could plummet as levels of absence are liable to an increase, with others even leaving with the perception that they are next to be made redundant.

The BPP specialises in the development of professional careers, training people for qualifications to ensure they get the most out of their strengths in law, economics and marketing.ADNFCR-2060-ID-19073952-ADNFCR
