Intelligent leaders 'key in motivating employees'
Date: 13/01/2009
The presence of intelligent leaders is a key part to motivating employees, it is suggested.
Such people are critical during the current times of uncertainty, says management expert Jo Ouston in an article for Real Business.
"Companies need leaders who can manage their own emotions, stay positive, anticipate risk and show resolution," she comments.
Encouraging positive attitudes should be their overriding objective, Ms Ouston continues, with a focus on development opportunities, staff incentives and recognition programmes.
Furthermore, staff should be encouraged to contribute new ideas so they feel involved in the business, she adds.
This will avoid rumours and motivate staff, the industry commentator believes.
Any team building and corporate events being undertaken need not be expensive, Ms Ouston also points out.
Last week, entrepreneurs Ruth Dawe and Lawrence Fitch spoke of the benefits of a team building exercise.
They told Top-Consultant that by using an events organiser they gained motivation in the face of economic difficulties.
