Increase employee motivation by striking a deal, says report

Date: 23/11/2010

Employers trying to increase employee motivation should aim to strike a deal with staff, according to a new report.

The Work Foundation has produced its fourth report which outlines how staff perceive their relationships with employers.

This advice follows a number of workshops hosted by the Work Foundation which aim to better employer leadership and discuss the best ways of achieving 'deals' between staff and their boss.

Based on 130 interviews carried out at six different organisations, the foundation has looked at both formal and psychological components of the relationship and advises employers on how much to listen to their employees' voice.

The report says: "The framework offers a significant leap forward in our journey towards a better understanding of the dynamics of the employment deal as perceived by the employee.

"Yet at the same time, we recognise that the journey is not complete. We hope to continue testing the framework for relevance in different labour markets, cultures and industry sectors, in the United Kingdom and abroad."
