Incentives and recognition are 'always the main focus'

Businesses will be faced with a number of pressures as a result of the recession, according to an expert in the field.

Ann E Zaslow-Rethaber of International Search Consultants explained that increased anxiety, burnout, tension among co-workers and absenteeism can rise as a result of such problems.

She continued: "With more companies having to restructure, cut salaries and reduce staff to stay in the game, it is a challenge for many employers to keep their employees motivated to maintain overall quality, production and service."

Ms Zaslow-Rethaber stated that an incentives and recognition programme needs to "effectively resonate" with staff demands, suggesting that surveys be taken of demands in the workplace.

Furthermore, employees will always work best when there is a plan of open communication between themselves and management, as this will "diminish uncertainty", the expert continued.
