Incentives and recognition 'will provide many with Christmas cheer'

Date: 25/11/2009

One in five employers are still considering the provision of a flexible benefits package to workers as a way of attracting new talent, Aon Consulting has revealed.

The 2009 Aon Employee Benefits and Trends Report surveyed 650 employers across 13 sectors, and found that 94 per cent of employers who have a flexible benefits programme have implemented it "as a motivational tool and for employee retention and attraction".

It found that bosses are also beginning to realise that flexible benefits are a way to reward staff for hard work and loyalty but can additionally allow companies to control and potentially reduce spending on benefits.

Gareth Ashley-Jones, head of flexible benefits at Aon Consulting, said that such incentives and recognition can show to workers that they have individual desires.

He continued: "More strategically, many companies are using the recession as a time to put in place a benefits programme in time for the recovery, so they are able to recognise and reward their star performers with an attractive benefits package when the war for talent kicks off again."

Aon has an employee base of 36,000 people, who work in around 500 offices in over 120 countries.
