Incentives and recognition offered by a firm must be adapted to suit the current financial situation, one business expert advises.
Companies which do not do this risk their employees becoming less motivated, warns Barry Shore, professor of decision sciences at the UNH Whittemore School of Business and Economics.
As UK firms battle the recession they must ensure workers remain motivated and take action to achieve this.
Managers can aid employee motivation through a team building activity or incentives and recognition, Mr Shore continues.
He urges bosses to understand the current level of motivation and morale before attempting to improve it and encourage team work.
Recognition programmes can help demonstrate appreciation of hard work, Mr Shore adds.
Fellow management expert Nathan Jamail also believes leaders must take a pro-active approach when motivating staff.
He suggests they lead by example and have an energetic plan in place for the coming days, weeks and months.
