Companies should be using incentive schemes as a way to boost employee confidence and morale, one industry commentator advises.
They should be operated in a transparent manner and give staff the chance to make a difference to the firm's operation, states careers information expert Aman Singh in an article for CNBC.
Incentive schemes need to give directional advice without boggling minds, he advises.
Ensuring the workforce is "on the same page" as the company's objectives, "you will not only survive 2009, you might even emerge a winner", Mr Singh continues.
Continued investment in things such as team building training has also been advised by the chief executive of consultancy firm Echeleon.
This kind of focus on people and performance can give firms a competitive advantage, says Alistair Morrison.
