Hull to get new conference venue
Date: 05/02/2010
A major redevelopment of Hull city centre will feature a state-of-the-art venue for team building conferences and corporate events in the East Riding of Yorkshire, it has been revealed.
The riverside Manor Mill area of the city is undergoing major changes with £100 million of investment, and Marriott will create a 185-bedroom hotel as part of the scheme, bringing the venue with it, the Hull Daily Mail revealed.
According to the report, the facility will include such things as conference and banqueting areas, a fitness centre and plenty of rooms with high-speed internet access, therefore catering to the corporate event markets.
Speaking to the newspaper, Richard Kendall, policy executive at the Hull and Humber Chamber of Commerce, said: "It is fantastic news that this project is still going ahead.
"We desperately need more quality hotels in the city centre, so it's very positive that Marriott recognises the potential here."
A number of other places in the city are known for hosting conferences, not least The Deep, which is part of the Green Tourism Business Scheme and won silver for Large Visitor Attraction of the Year 2009 in the White Rose Awards.
