Harvard study underlines importance of recognition
Date: 10/02/2010
Businesses must work towards consistent progress but must not back out of arrangements which involve the likes of incentives and recognition, according to a new report.
The Harvard Business Review concluded in its Breakthrough Ideas for 2010 article that high-skill businesses need to have a large amount of motivation in the form of incentives and recognition.
It was shown by the evaluation that these key factors in particular motivate workers and lift their moods when working, so as a result it stands to reason that managers celebrate progress of their staff, even if it is only incremental.
The piece continued: "But there will be nothing to recognise if people aren't genuinely moving forward, and as a practical matter, recognition can't happen every day. You can, however, see that progress happens every day."
It follows comments from Pluggd.in which underlined how high turnover is the natural progression from poor recognition, costing a business much more in the long run.
