Carbon emissions targets, energy savings and environmental responsibility can be good ways of boosting employee motivation.
According to Paul Worswick, from BuddingEntrepreneur.com, as well as benefiting from reduced energy bills and a boost in brand respectability, companies that adopt green measures can improve staff morale.
Speaking to Fresh Business Thinking, Worswick said: "Perhaps you can look at ways to motivate [staff] to get them involved - how about promising to spend any savings on the heating and air conditioning on a party for them?"
He added: "Having someone else do the nagging also reduces the pressure on the boss as it's one less thing for your team to moan about!"
Worswick concluded that green initiatives don't have to cost the earth and the initial outlay will often be recouped as a result of lower bills, improved efficiency and increased employee engagement.
Recently, Cotswold District Council introduced an eco-friendly reward and recognition program to encourage staff to turn their computers off at the end of the working day - saving the council money and reducing its carbon footprint.
