Government support and increased cooperation with businesses in the UK must be institutionalised if employee morale and performance is to remain strong in the face of the recession, it is asserted.
A review, commissioned in September by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, explained that through reward and recognition and other team building activities, bosses will become adept in "unleashing the potential of people at work".
David MacLeod, the leader of the report, explained: "By respecting the contribution employees can make and ensuring they are fully involved in developing their organisation's future, employers can help unlock their full potential.
"If workplaces up and down the UK learn from the best standards that are already in place, the whole country will benefit."
Those consulted in the review included Jackie Orme, the chief executive of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, and Gordon Frazer, the UK managing director of Microsoft.
