Glasgow to host maiden Mobo awards

Date: 30/09/2009

The popularity of the SECC as a venue for team building corporate events is to be highlighted tonight (September 30th) when it hosts the Mobo music awards.

The Glasgow-based Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC) - the main space for many live brand experiences and team building corporate events north of the border - is to host the Mobo music awards tonight.

Kanya King, the founder of the ceremony - which celebrates Music of Black Origin, thus the name - has hit out at critics of the show's location, which have branded the area as "too white" and not snazzy enough to host the event, sticking up for the biggest city in Scotland.

She said of the decision: "Glasgow is full of great music. Glasgow is sexy. We have got all the coolest stars coming here. There is real passion for music here."

Hosting the awards will be Radio 1's Reggie Yates and Keri Hilson, the US R'n'B breakthrough superstar who recently released her album In a Perfect World..., which featured a performance from Kanye West and mixing from Timbaland.

The SECC will be far from quiet during the rest of the week, with Billy Connolly performing live from Thursday for a two-week spell and Pixies staging part of their recent live tour on Sunday (October 4th).
