Generation Y employee motivation a 'concern'
Date: 31/08/2010
Employee motivation amongst those in generation Y should be a major concern for UK businesses.
New research from Badenoch & Clark (B&C) has shown that almost one in three young professionals do not trust their employer.
According to the firm, 32 per cent of 16-24-year-olds refuse to believe most of what their employer tells them.
B&C claims that this is a dramatic increase on last year's figure of 18 per cent.
Guy Emmerson, associate director of B&C, said: "Without a culture of trust in the workplace, employers will struggle to foster employee engagement and, in-turn, retain their workforce."
He added that younger employees have very specific expectations of the companies they work for and are demanding more two-way conversations.
Mr Emmerson said that without this, businesses will find it extremely difficult to boost morale and employee motivation.
"Now is the time to start repairing this relationship," he concluded.
Dr Doug Wright, principal clinical consultant at Aviva UK Health, suggested last week that low levels of employee motivation can impact upon a person's health.
