Performance and employee morale could be boosted if companies implement flexible working and host applications to allow people to work from home, it has been said.
Citrix Online carried out a survey after the recent two-day London Underground strike, finding that over half of respondents were forced to travel into work anyway as the option was not available to them to do the work necessary for their job.
Bernardo de Albergaria, a vice-president and general manager at Citrix Online, said the internet is ensuring businesses are more connected than ever before, making it surprising that many are not investing in flexible working as a means of boosting performance while motivating employees.
He continued: "The survey clearly demonstrates that workers could be as or more productive working from home but unfortunately many businesses are not being as quick to recognise the benefits of adopting a flexible working approach in their business continuity plans."
The Rail, Maritime and Transport union was behind the recent two-day walk-out, citing pay, job security and bullying issues as the cause while working with Transport for London.
