Flexible working 'can boost employee motivation'

Date: 02/08/2010

Businesses can boost employee motivation and morale by incorporating flexible working practices into their daily routine, it has been claimed.

According to new research conducted by mobile phone giant Orange, as well as reducing workplace overheads, flexible working can cut stress and increase self esteem.

Max Taylor, director of corporate marketing at the telecoms firm, said: "Allowing employees to work flexibly actually presents a significant opportunity for businesses to save money and improve employee morale."

He added: "Setting up an employee to work from home needn't involve significant investment, just the willingness to give them the tools they need to get the job done."

Recently Dragons' Den entrepreneur James Caan claimed that boosting employee motivation does not have to be a costly affair.

Writing for the Daily Telegraph, Caan said that recognition can go a long way towards boosting morale but suggested businesses consider offering share options or sales incentives.
