Flexible working 'can aid staff motivation'

Employers who allow their staff to work remotely could see improvements in employee motivation, one communications expert states.

It is an "attractive solution" for businesses, says Darren Lemon in an article for the Belfast Telegraph, and also gives other advantages such as increasing productivity and decreasing carbon footprint.

Teleworking is a "strong proposition" for firms because of its positive effects on employee motivation and engagement as well as savings on office space and equipment, Mr Lemon continues.

When coupled with other motivation schemes such as team building training and incentive programmes, the benefits of remote working could become even greater.

Keeping staff motivated is even more important during the difficult economic times, another business expert said earlier this week.

Managers must connect with workers on an emotional level and use initiatives such as incentive and recognition schemes, suggested consultant Jon Katzenbach.

He told Business Week that bosses should find a way for employees to feel good about their work each and every day.
