As the recession takes hold, businesses are being urged to adapt and ensure they get the best from their staff.
Over the past 15 years, firms have been investing in development schemes such as team building activities and this grounding should not go to waste, states Phil Flaxton, chief executive of Work Wise UK.
He calls on companies to make sure they are using their money wisely when it comes to things such as motivating employees and look carefully at how they can get the most from employees in the current climate.
"It's all about realising and understanding that the game has changed," Mr Flaxton adds.
Offering flexible working and ensuring skills are put to good use could help in motivating employees during the downturn, as figures from the Work Foundation show that two in five workers have no say in their hours and possess more talents than their job requires.
