Firms focus on leadership development 'with good reason'

Well-run companies are focusing more on leadership development than ever before, and with good reason, according to one business commentator.
"Now more than ever organisations are dependent on leadership skills to survive," explains Josh Bersin, president of Bersin & Associates, in an article for Training Zone.
He suggests there are three major needs for leadership development, which will ultimately aid in motivating employees.
Building strength in management, especially when people are promoted or have their roles change, is vital to ensure confidence in bosses remains, Mr Bersin comments.
He also adds that leadership development programmes should be change-enablers, giving managers the opportunity to improve the business and ensure a dynamic career development model is put in to practice.
"Maintaining leadership development programmes is one of the strongest ways to build learning culture," Mr Bersin states.
Earlier this month, the Financial Gazette also highlighted the importance of having good managers in place, saying they should lead by example.
