Firm rewards quitters

Date: 18/12/2008

A business in Saudi Arabia has revealed a staff incentives scheme with a difference - cash rewards for those who quit smoking.

Al-Elm Company announced at the weekend it has implemented a programme in which employees who stub out for good will be given SR5,000 (£871).

Mohammad Al-Arifi, director of financial and administrative affairs at the firm, told Arab News: "Thanks to the successful internal campaign launched by the company against smoking, quitting has become a target for some staff members, including some heavy smokers."

The scheme has been devised in order to protect workers against the effects of secondary inhalation and comes after similar employee incentive programmes were set up by the company to reward those who managed to avoid the lure of nicotine.

In related news, around 100 branch managers for HBOS are set to be taken on a trip to New York as part of a worker reward initiative.ADNFCR-2060-ID-18936151-ADNFCR
