Experiential learning and team building: White water can unite workers

Date: 06/12/2011

A company in America is promoting the activity of white water rafting as the ultimate corporate team building activity.

While it may be beyond the reach of many companies to fly their employees off to the Grand Canyon in order to take part in a day on the rapids, there are companies which offer the sport a little closer to home.

White water rafting provides the perfect opportunity for staff to work together in order to achieve a specific aim – overcoming nature and navigating the river.

Many teams benefit from better communication skills after such days away, and organising everyone to do their bit and paddle at the right point can be very rewarding.

Rafting companies up and down the country offer teambuilding packages, which come with experienced guides, making them safe as well as fun.

Bruce Winter of Grand Canyon Whitewater, says: "Over the years we've had the opportunity to see how people's relationships grow over the course of one of our rafting trips, and it's amazing. Participants who start the Grand Canyon raft trip as strangers often leave the best of friends, and we've found that corporate groups bond in a really special way out here."
