Experiential learning and team building: Plymouth Half Marathon launches the Corporate Challenge

Date: 21/02/2012

Running a half marathon is a great way to get members of staff working towards a common goal or bring out their competitive spirit.

That is why the organisers of the Plymouth Half Marathon have launched the Corporate Challenge as a form of corporate team building.

Kirsty McLatchie, of the Plymouth Half Marathon Team, said: "Research shows that top performing businesses succeed when they can work well in teams. The current economic climate is particularly testing to everyone, so anything companies can do to encourage a group spirit can only be helpful."

The Corporate Challenge can be utilised in a number of ways with staff training together, keeping charts up on the wall in the office of everyone's progress and helping to promote a healthy workforce.

Since it can be used in order to raise cash for charity as well, the opportunities to adapt the event are endless.

Ms McLatchie said: "Running together, in fact training of any kind, can be lots of fun too. It's also a great thing to talk to clients about or even get them involved with and extend client relationships in a positive, informal way."

Another way to use the Corporate Challenge to maximum effect would be to engage another workplace in a battle to see who performs the best in the half marathon.

Prizes could be handed out for the workplace which sees the most employees make it over the finishing line, the fastest time the course is completed in and who makes the most money for charity.

This helps to get staff working together as a team by giving them a common aim in beating the other office's staff.

The organisers of the Plymouth Half Marathon will also give a trophy to the fastest corporate team to finish the race and £250 to the workplace's chosen charity.ADNFCR-2060-ID-801298412-ADNFCR
