ExCeL joins HBAA to improve corporate event standards

Date: 17/06/2009

ExCeL London, the venue of the capital famous for hosting this year's G20 gathering, has joined forces with the Hotel Booking Agents Association (HBAA).

The HBAA is seen as the "pre-eminent association" in the business travel sector and will add ExCeL to its books, which already have a buying power of £2.1 billion.

Steve Ockerby, the chairman of the HBAA, explained that his main concern is to improve the professionalism and standards already shown by ExCeL London, adding that its decision to join up with his organisation signals how the facility wants to improve its corporate event standards further.

Director of conferences and events at ExCel London James Rees said: "As we move closer to the opening of our expanded convention facilities next spring, it is vital that we share our plans with all our key clients and keep them updated on progress; through the HBAA we can ensure we continue to do this."

At the end of last month, ExCeL London announced that it would begin building a new £74 million hotel development on the east of its campus as early as October this year in time for the 2012 Olympics.ADNFCR-2060-ID-19219097-ADNFCR
