Employees are 'getting more stressed at work'

Date: 01/10/2010

Employee motivation is suffering as staff get more stressed in the workplace, it has been claimed.

According to the International Stress Management Association (ISMA), strained work relationships and changing roles are the main causes of increased stress levels - suggesting that corporate team building events could be used as a means of tackling the problem.

The organisation's chair, Ann McCracken, said: "Anecdotally... our members have noticed that they are meeting and working with more people concerned about work."

However, she added that there has been very little research conducted into the causes of rising stress levels in the British workplace.

She noted that no research on the subject of stress - and its impact on leadership and motivation - is expected to be published in the coming year.

A recent study by Slumberland showed that three-quarters of British workers are struggling to get a full night's sleep because of work worries.
