Employees 'need more than materialistic motivation'

Date: 14/01/2009

Although it may be a short-term commodity that helps in motivating employees, materialistic attitudes can only go so far when pushing company performance, according to one business expert.

Damien Clarke, a management specialist for over 11 years, said that when working conditions in a workplace deteriorate, employees will be happy to do just enough to get by, keep bosses happy and still continue to get paid, highlighting the need for a better incentive scheme.

He said: "Often staff will work harder and continue a high level of work output if they know that their efforts are genuinely acknowledged and appreciated. Just a simple and genuine 'thank you' can go a long way."

By using this technique, he said, a company can treat their employees with a genuinely sincere attitude - something they may want to solidify with a team building exercise by corporate event planners.

According to Event Planning Secrets, the relevance of speakers and entertainers is always important when holding hospitality events, with the website recommending that the hosting company liaises with the events organiser to ensure that it is all on-topic.
