Employees 'motivated by new tasks'

Date: 26/11/2009

In terms of employee motivation and development, businesses may want to partner their incentives and recognition schemes for workers with providing the opportunity to learn new skills and competencies.

Andrew Lester of Fresh Business Thinking explained that managed sustained growth requires input and support from everyone in the company, with new challenges being the cornerstone of this improvement in the abilities of a firm.

He explained: "Beyond the natural concern over change, most employees relish the opportunity to develop their own skills and are highly motivated by working on new stuff as well as the existing business."

Too many organisations concern themselves with negative stress in the workplace, Mr Lester asserted, noting that positive stress on growth can create a large number of benefits for organisations in creating opportunities to allow workers to "shine and feel valued".

It follows comments from Guy Norgrove of the same publication, who explained that companies must promote open communication for the best teamwork possible.
