Employee retention 'needs performance recognition'

Date: 01/05/2009

For businesses to retain their employees, they must not get bogged down by the same daily grind, it has been stated.

Dr Cabot Jaffee, the chairman of Global Talent Metrics, told Express Computer that a wide variety of tasks and challenges will always keep the individual interested in the job.

He explained that through the employment of tactics such as multi-tasking and job rotation, an employee feels more intrinsically connected to the work they are doing and as a result, they feel wanted and their performance improves.

If this training is also linked to the development of their personal skills, the publication explained that motivating employees can be a lot easier than many managers think.

Lekha Sishta, the vice-president of talent management at SumTotal Systems, added that by ensuring they cover all areas of an employee's life cycle, managers can provide them with "a fantastic workplace and [...] enough reasons for [the employee] to spend a long innings at your company".

Motivation is also a good way of getting employees to restore their faith in management, with a poll last month by Endaba explaining that a lack of trust can prove to be "catastrophic", particularly in the current climate.ADNFCR-2060-ID-19151312-ADNFCR
